Growing Together
BNSF LPC

To: Our Valued Customers,

Everyone who is using BNSF LPC (Logistics Park Center) in Joliet, IL are experiencing major delays in getting their containers since beginning of April this year.

This is how PBI is approaching this difficult time.

Meeting with BNSF LPC

BNSF LCP conducted a meeting on April 27 and 28 with interested Steamship lines and Motor Carriers.  This meeting was simply announcing their new procedures effective May 2, 2005 and explaining the current rail situation.

Effective May 2, 2005, BNSF has implemented an improved international container pre-mount program at its LPC facility.  This program was developed to:

·          Reduce trucker time at the facilities

·          Improve fluidity and capacity at the facilities

·          Benefits include Automatic recalculation of the storage free time and 24/7 shipment visibility is available via BNSF’s Display Intermodal Lot Location.

·          All requests of mounting must be submitted via the DLL pre-mount program

·          The cutoff for requesting a next-day appointment is 6:00 pm local time

·          The shipment will be mounted made available by 6:00 am on the requested pre-mount date.

·          Notification will be sent via email to the pre-mount requestor once the pre-mount request has been completed.

·          If BNSF does not meet the –pre-mount request, a notification will be sent to the pre-mount request party and the unit storage free time will be recalculated.

·          BNSF will no longer perform live lifts requested at the gate for grounded containers.

·          Starting July 1, 2005, international containers will incur a $100 per day charge in addition to applicable storage charges if the container is not removed from the facility by the midnight on the requested pre-mount date.

What we experienced so far.

Well, I really don't have time to list everything that is not working and how much loss of revenue this so-called new procedure has created for everyone using this facility;  but simply above mentioned changes are not working right now, and this will create a bigger problem for all international community who uses BN LPC unless these issues are resolved immediately.

What PBI has done to make this work.

·          Effective May 2, we changed our system to automatically trace pre-mount status every 15 minutes.  Although the pre-mount request has to be requested manually, this automated tracing freed up dispatchers and customer service representatives' valuable time.

·          We are still getting automatic updates from steelroads every hour to our system.

Although this new updates give us another advantage to save time and operate more efficiently, until BN gets the containers mounted on the chassis, we will all pay the consequences.
